Dr. Mahdeieh Allahviranloo

Dr. Mahdieh Allahviranloo is an Associate Professor in the Department of Civil Engineering at The City College of New York (CUNY), specializing in transportation systems and urban mobility. Her research focuses on understanding travel behavior, activity pattern recognition, and the influence of urban form on travelers’ choices. She combines methods from data mining, statistical analysis, and optimization to model how individuals move through urban environments and how transportation networks respond to change.
Dr. Allahviranloo investigates the evolving landscape of transportation, including the impacts of collaborative logistics, shared ownership, and shared mobility services. Her work aims to assess how these emerging modes affect travel behavior and contribute to the reshaping of cities. She is particularly interested in transportation system resiliency and how infrastructure can adapt to disruption, extreme conditions, and future urban demands.
Her ongoing research includes mining and clustering activity pattern trajectories, modeling and visualizing transportation networks, and analyzing mobility data to inform travel demand modeling and policy development. She brings a multidisciplinary perspective that bridges civil engineering, urban planning, and data science to address real-world challenges in transportation.
At City College, Dr. Allahviranloo mentors students and contributes to the advancement of sustainable, data-driven transportation solutions that meet the needs of dynamic and diverse urban populations.
