Research Area: Interconnected Impacts of Microplastics on the Soil and Water Systems

Microplastics are a growing environmental concern, ubiquitous on land, in water, food, and waste streams. My research focuses on understanding the fate and transport of microplastics and how much humans are exposed to them. Working with my research mentor, Dr. Linda Y. Tseng, I am studying how urban environments contribute to microplastic pollution through activities and how microplastics move among soil, water, air, and human.
By integrating field sampling, mapping, and laboratory experiments, my work identifies microplastics sources and sinks, and potential risks of exposure. This research supports United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), including SDG 6 (Clean Water and Sanitation), SDG 11 (Sustainable Cities and Communities), SDG 12 (Responsible Consumption and Production), SDG 13 (Climate Action), and SDG 14 (Life Below Water). Through a systematic approach, I aim to create awareness and solutions that promote cleaner cities and healthier communities.
